Lufthansa and JetBlue Airways kicked off codeshare operations linking their two networks via Boston and New York. At a ceremony at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, JetBlue CEO Dave Barger and Lufthansa German Airlines CEO Christoph Franz officially launched the new partnership as the airlines welcomed their first arriving customer from Europe.

FlyMontserrat has announced the launch of its first scheduled flight service between Montserrat and Antigua. The government of Montserrat has approved the service, which offers one return flight per day from 1st to 15th December 2009, and thereafter two return flights every day.

A former president of the Jamaica Airline Pilots Association (JALPA) has sent an open letter to Spirit Airlines, asking the low-cost carrier to drop its bid to purchase Air Jamaica and disclose the purchase price to the current and former Air Jamaica employees who are determined to keep the country’s only airline under Jamaican ownership –even if it means purchasing it themselves.

Bahamas’ tourism sector got a needed shot in the arm Monday when WestJet Airlines announced direct service there from Toronto, Canada beginning now in November. At a press conference, Minister of Tourism and Aviation, Senator, Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace affirmed his confidence in what Grand Bahama has to offer.

Canada’s WestJet airline started operations to Cuba this Sunday, when the first flight of tour operator WestJet Vacations landed at the Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport in this city.
