Mazatlan, Mexico, officially welcomed American Eagle’s once daily service between the Pacific Coast city and the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport on Thursday, June 9. Opening the door to more than 250 destinations around the world, the new Dallas flight represents a boost of more than $180 million in revenue to Mazatlan’s tourism sector.

Starting in July, Sansa Airlines will offer regular flights from San José to Limón as part of a plan to increase the flow of tourists into the Caribbean province, according to a press release issued by the Presidency Ministry. Sansa plans to offer at least four flights a week. The price of tickets will range from $60 to $150.

Virgin Atlantic is to start flying to Cancun next summer. The service will fly twice weekly to the Mexican resort from June 12, 2012 and the airline expects to carry around 94,000 passengers in the first year.

Beginning on December 22, 2011, Cape Air’s service to Anguilla will be augmented by a new third round trip flight to and from San Juan on peak days. This 29 percent increase in capacity complements Cape Air’s existing two daily flights.

Beginning July 4, Aeromexico will launch two nonstop, daily flights between Miami International Airport and Cancun. The new flights will leave Miami at 7:45 a.m., arriving at 8:25 a.m., and 6:50 p.m., arriving at 7:30 p.m. Return flights will leave Cancun at 9:25 a.m., arriving in Miami at 11:55 a.m., and 8:30 p.m., arriving at 11 p.m.

Southwest Airlines, which is partnering with the Mexican carrier Volaris, is offering Rapid Rewards members an additional 2,000 points per roundtrip to Mexico by connecting to and from a Southwest flight.
