Young Mathematicians from Santiago Win Napster Contest

Young Santiago-born mathematicians promised to be the kings of Cuba once again and they did it. The NAPSTER team, from the Eastern University’s Faculty of Computer Sciences and Mathematics, is going to represent the Caribbean nation at the World Finale of the ACM-ICPC, to take place in Morocco in May 2015. Click on Santiago de Cuba: A City of 500 Years The event is aimed at encouraging the development of skills in terms of computer programming, mathematics, solving problem and teamwork. The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) is an annual contest organized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). This is the second time in a row that the team from Santiago, made up of Reynaldo Gil Pons, Jose Moraguez Piñol and Luis Rafael Baez González, has been chosen to participate in the international event, and they are looking forward to "taking the Caribbean up to a new level, since the most remarkable achievement was the 82nd position reached back in 2012 by the Caribbean Turtles team, from Santo Domingo’s Technological Institute", Javier Sardiñas Sierra, NAPSTER member and coach, said. These boys are trained in every field and participate in numerous online contests throughout the year. They also attend the events organized by the University of Computer Sciences (UCI is the Spanish acronym), which helps them be better programmers – mathematicians.
