Windstar Appoints Huib Van Leeuwen as VP-Marine Operations

Windstar Cruises appointed Huib van Leeuwen vice president-marine operations, reporting to Nico Corbijn, executive vice president of fleet operations. In his new role, van Leeuwen will be responsible for all technical, deck and engine operations of Windstar’s three ships.

The position was created when Windstar took over technical operations and shipboard management from V. Ships Leisure. Mr. Van Leeuwen brings 25 years of marine technical experience to Windstar.

Over the past 10 years, he was marine superintendent for Holland America Line, managing several ships and the Windstar ships when they were owned by Holland America.

Prior to that, he held positions at Elliott Bay Design Group, a naval architecture and marine engineering firm; Grasso International; Todd Shipyards; and Foss Maritime. Mr. Van Leeuwen has also sailed as an engineer on four Holland America Line ships and on cargo ships from the Netherlands.
