Winair Ups Antigua-Montserrat Roundtrips Through January 8

Winair increased its service between Antigua and Montserrat from four to six flights a day through January 8.

Air service to Montserrat resumed in July after a 10-year impasse due to the eruption of the Soufriere Hills Volcano in 1995, which destroyed the island´s W.H. Bramble Airport.

Passengers arriving in Montserrat on Winair´s 20-minute, 19-seat Twin Otter flights from Antigua now fly into the $18.5 million Gerald´s Airport on the island´s northeastern coast.

Ernestine Cassell, Montserrat´s director of tourism, said that the addition of the two daily flights “is a direct result of our growing market. More flights out of Antigua allow passengers from Europe, the U.S. and Canada to reach Montserrat without an overnight stopover.”

Airline and tourism officials will evaluate the traffic movements in January to determine if the two additional flights will remain in Winair´s schedule after January 8.

Winair´s flights currently offer the only way to reach Montserrat from Antigua or nearby St. Maarten (the Winair flights originate in St. Maarten and stop in Antigua before arriving in Montserrat).
