Washington Fines Argentinean Travel Agency for Violating Cuba Embargo

The Argentina-based Decolar.com travel agency has agreed to pay a $2.8 million fine for transactions that allegedly violated the US economic, commercial and financial embargo of Cuba.

The US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced on Tuesday that a subsidiary of the company in Delaware agreed to pay the fine for operations that involved interests of Cuba or of Cuban citizens between March 2, 2009, and March 31, 2012.

According to the information, the travel agency, also known as Despegar.com, offered services to 17,834 persons who purchased air tickets or made hotel reservations in Cuba or in third countries without the authorization of OFAC.
