VivaAerobus Launches Service from Monterrey to Miami, Orlando
Mexican low cost carrier VivaAerobus is launching service to Miami and Orlando from the city of Monterrey in Nuevo León province, at fares starting at $125 roundtrip.
VivaAerobus’ Monterrey-Miami service operates twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. It is timed to leave Monterrey’s General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY) at 3:15 p.m and arrive at Miami International Airport (MIA) at 7:45 p.m. local time.
In the other direction, the VivaAerobus flight is scheduled to depart MIA at 8:45 p.m. and land at MTY at 11:15 p.m. local time. As of November 2011, Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier VivaAerobus operated or had contracted for a total of 20 Boeing 737-300s. Starting November 19, VivaAerobus launches weekly seasonal service on Saturdays between Monterrey and Orlando.
The flight is timed to push back from the gate at MTY at 8:00 a.m. and to reach Orlando International Airport (MCO) at 12:20 p.m. local time. In the other direction, the carrier’s flight is scheduled to begin taxiing at MCO at 1:20 p.m., in order to make a 3:35 p.m. arrival at MTY.
With its two new international routes to Florida, VivaAerobus now is serving six U.S. destinations. VivaAerobus already serves Chicago Midway, Houston, Las Vegas and San Antonio from its hub at Monterrey.
According to VivaAerobus, the six routes give it the largest U.S. network from Monterrey of any Mexican airline.
VivaAerobus says the new routes are important in connecting Northeastern Mexico with Miami, which concentrates the largest number of Latin American focused corporations in the U.S.; and Orlando, a city with a diverse variety of entertainment options including world-class amusement parks and a convention center that ranks among the best in the world.
Based at Monterrey in Nuevo León province, VivaAerobus was founded by IAMSA and Irelandia and started operations in November 2006. The airline operates a fleet of 17 Boeing 737-300s on 46 Mexican domestic routes and six routes from Monterrey to the United States.
