Virgin Scholarship Award Launched

Virgin Holidays has partnered with the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism EDUCATION FOUNDATION (CHTAEF) for nine consecutive years supporting young hospitality and tourism stars across the region.

Virgin Holidays Antigua Country Manager Karen Budd explained the impetus for this Special Scholarship Award. “Our local Antiguan team participated in a global Virgin Holidays team event a few years back, and in line with our belief that good tourism is sustainable tourism, we raised money to develop a tourism professional in Antigua & Barbuda,” she said.

“Having worked closely with CHTAEF for years, we asked them to join with us, allowing for a valuable full scholarship for two years’ tuition fees while attending the Resort Management Associates degree course at the Antigua & Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute (ABHTI).

A release said, “Virgin Holidays is pleased to support a local institution of excellence and participate in the teaching of a 15-hour Sustainable Tourism / Eco-Smart module within the Resort Management course.”

The application period ends on 4pm on Carnival Monday, August 5. There will be no extensions to the deadline and the winner will be announced on August 23.

CHTAEF invitee young Antiguan & Barbudan professionals who are passionate about sustainability, tourism and hospitality, and wishing to study resort management  at ABHTI beginning in September, to email an application request to antiguavirginscholarship@gmail.com.

They will then receive an application form. Details can also be found on Facebook: Antigua Virgin Holidays Scholarship.

This scholarship is open to new Antiguan students and Antiguan students who have been accepted by ABHTI to begin September 2013. Regrettably CHTAEF & Virgin Holidays are unable to offer telephone support.
