USVI Taps Beverly Nicholson Doty as Commissioner of Tourism

Beverly Nicholson Doty, president of the U.S. Virgin Islands Hotel & Tourism Association, has been nominated for the post of U.S. Virgin Islands commissioner of tourism by John deJongh, governor of the USVI. Her nomination must be confirmed by the USVI legislature; confirmation hearings are expected to begin shortly.

When confirmed, Nicholson Doty will assume the post recently held by Pamela Richards, former chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

During her watch as head of the hotel and tourism association, Nicholson Doty launched the Student Internship Program, which encourages students to consider employment options in the hospitality industry.

She also unified the two hotel and tourism associations in the territory (St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix) into one organization, thereby strengthening the overall hotel product and marketing of the destination.

Nicholson Doty had served as executive director of the St. Thomas-St. John Hotel & Tourism Association, was named as executive director of the year in 2000 by the Caribbean Hotel Association, and served three consecutive years as vice president of the Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives.
