Uruguay’s Pluna Airlines to Fly to Mexico, Venezuela

Uruguay’s Pluna Airlines –run by Brazilian company Varig- will soon start flying to Mexico and Venezuela. Execs have already listed a couple of weekly flights to Caracas while the Mexico connection is yet to be decided. The latter, however, is scheduled to make stopovers in Bolivia’s Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the airline’s CEO Milton Rodriguez explained.

The initial date for the flights also remain undisclosed, though the main goal is to support the current efforts of the Uruguayan Tourism Ministry to nab more sunbathers from overseas.

In addition to that, a commercial agreement inked recently between Uruguay and Mexico “is opening a new window of opportunity to enhance that exchange,” Mr. Rodriguez went on to say.

The Uruguayan government owns 49 percent of Pluna’s shares, while the remainder of all stocks is in the hands of Brazil’s Varig Airlines in a partnership with local investors and the Trade Union of Ground Workers and Air Controllers.

As we speak, Pluna flies to Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paolo, Madrid and Asuncion, the latter in association with TAM Airways.
