Update on a Santiago de Cuba Avenue

The highest authorities of the Party and Government in this southeastern province reviewed the investment in the first out of six sections of the 2.7-Km-long Juan Gualberto Gómez-Flor Crombet Avenue, from the Revolution Square to Santa Ifigenia Cemetery. The meeting was attended by representatives of the companies that are working on the project.

Lázaro Expósito Canto, First Secretary of the Party in the territory, pointed out that "we’re putting all our effort into this activity, but the result is not as good as it should be". This comment refers to the fact that there is a seven-day delay and that time is to be recovered in November.

At the first section, from Los Libertadores Ave to Cuabitas Ave, the work is focused on the reconstruction of the road with median strip, curbs, sidewalks, the relocation of air lines, as well as the rehabilitation and preservation of houses.

Expósito Canto said that the people of Santiago is committed to finishing the works at the monumental avenue before July 26, 2015, in order to pay tribute to the 62nd anniversary of the assaults to Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, and the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the village.

The avenue project includes from ornamental elements to public spaces. Omar López, Curator of Santiago de Cuba City announced that several visual artists are going to work on the decoration with sculptures and mural paintings.

Juan Gualberto Gómez-Flor Crombet Avenue is going to feature four lanes, three meter each, with a center strip.
