Airfare distribution only United Airlines has matched the attempted increase by Delta Air Lines on Tuesday of $10 roundtrip (the ninth attempted increase this year, according to Rick Seaney, CEO of FareCompare.com.

Mr. Seaney said this particular increase attempt is out of the normal pattern for airlines. United Airlines raised fuel surcharges by $10 roundtrip on 12,000 city pairs last week for both leisure and business travelers.

US Airways had some very minor matching activity for this increase attempt which is most likely attributable to there automated matching systems and not a management decision to match the system wide increase.
