UNESCO Director General Visits Historical Sites in Azerbaijan

UNESCO Director General Koishiro Matsuura, accompanied by a delegation, visited Gobustan State Historical Reserve in Azerbaijan, a former Soviet Republic in the heart of Asia.

In the first half of the day, guests attended the Gobustan State Historical Reserve and got familiar with the ancient history of Azerbaijan. The UNESCO Good Will Ambassador, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, accompanied the guests in their trip.

In the evening the guests were planning to attend a cultural performers by famous Azerbaijani performers, in the ancient fire-worshippers temple “Atashgah”.

The visit of the UNESCO Director General to Azerbaijan will end on August 26. Before his departure he will hold a briefing at the airport on the results of his visit.
