Two Israeli Tourist Dead after Rafting Accident in Peru

Apurimac River in Peru is a well-known adventure tourism spot for visitors to the Andean country. After a rafting accident with eight tourists from Israel part of a group two participants went missing.

Peru rescue teams had been dispatched along with a rescue team flown in from Israel. The Apurimac River, which feeds into the Amazon Rivera, is popular with tourists looking for adventure.

Two years ago, an Israeli woman fell victim to a rafting accident on the same river, near the city of Cuzco.

According to the Peruvian Foreign Ministry, a local guide on the raft reported the accident, and local search teams –augmented by a team sent by an insurance company– were searching the river bank for the missing Israelis. They were found and recovered dead and their families have been notified.
