Twin Caribbean Carriers Show Off Larger Numbers

Caribbean Star Airlines seems well on its way to eclipse the record half million plus passengers it carried last year. For the first four months of 2005, the carrier has already surpassed its last year´s uplift figures by more than 7 000.

Since Caribbean Star began flying in October 2000, it has recorded increased growth every single year. In 2001, the airline´s first full year of operation, it carried a total of 169,677 passengers. Three years later in 2004, those figures had rocketed to 503,993.

The most significant increase, however, was registered in 2002, when it carried 337,152 passengers against the previous year (2001) when the carrier lifted 169,677 passengers for a whopping 99 percent increase.

Meanwhile, twin airline Caribbean Sun, is also racking up some records of its own. Last year, its second year of operation t he airline moved 160,251 passengers on its routes, an amazing 183 percent more than it carried in the previous year.

Caribbean Sun operates in the northern Caribbean, except for a four-time-a-week service between San Juan, Puerto Rico and St. Vincent, which it opened on 21 March last. The carrier´s best month during 2004 was December, when it transported 19,377 passengers, an increase of 88 percent compared to the previous December, when it moved 10 302, also the best month of 2003.
