Turks & Caicos Scraps Annual Film Festival as Economic Forecast Darkens

Turks and Caicos organizers said last week that a tough global economy and soaring airline-ticket prices forced them to cancel a burgeoning annual film festival.

Wayne Garland, chairman of the British dependency’s tourism board, said the four-day Turks and Caicos International Film Festival scheduled for mid-October was scrapped as the economic forecast darkens.

The festival showcasing international independent cinema was in its fourth year in the Caribbean chain, which lies 620 miles southeast of Miami.
