TUI-HOLLY Award for Cuban hotel
The Paradiso Rio de Oro Hotel in the tourist resort of Playa Esmeralda received the TUI-HOLLY award for the second year in a row in an acknowledgement to quality and excellence in service.
Granted every year by the German TUI tour-operator to the best 100 hotels that receive its clients, the facility placed 36th on a worldwide scale and is the only one in Cuba that holds such distinction.
The acknowledgement has great value for the tourist industry in Holguin, considered the third leading tourism destination in Cuba. Last year, the Rio de Oro received an award in the Paradise category for its high quality standards.
The hotel is operated by the Spanish chain Sol Melia and the Cuban group Gaviota and specializes as a place for honeymooners. A hundred-forty thousand tourists arrived to the resort -750 kilometers east of Havana- last year, and it had the highest rate of visitors staying at least a week.
Hotels and other tourist facilities of Holguin brought in nearly 100 million US dollars in revenue in 2002 with profits of 19 million USD and 68 percent of consumption was from national production, indicators expected to be improved upon this current year.
