The Triple Frontier: A Safe Haven for Sexual Tourism with Minors

Paraguay´s Department of Childhood and Adolescence has just issued a report that spells out harrowing details on the reality at the so-called Triple Frontier, a territory that has acquired notoriousness as a shelter of tourists looking for sex with children.

In the cities of Foz de Iguazu, Ciudad de Este and Puerto Iguazu, the rights of hundreds of boys and girls are blatantly violated by sexual predators who have been lurking children for years in this South American region and their actions have apparently gone unnoticed.

“Foreigners,” the document states, “pay huge lump sums of money for girls who are virgins and unafraid of getting AIDS.” In other cases, travel packages include offers of sexual relations with minors.

By and large, these tourists come from developed countries who know their crimes can go unpunished in the Triple Frontier. A case in point is Paraguay, where pornography with children and pimping are just misdemeanors that can be fixed with a fine or less than five years in jail.
