TravelWeb Posted $1 Million in Online Hotel Bookings in November
TravelWeb said it had $1 million in online hotel bookings in November, one year after the Web site starting taking real-time reservations. Since launching its online booking function, TravelWeb has recorded more then $5.5 million in credit card-guaranteed hotel reservations through the Internet.
“This is a clear indication of the acceptance of electronic commerce on the Web,” said John F. Davis III, chief executive officer of Pegasus Systems, TravelWeb’s owner. “Even more encouraging is the pace at which it is growing.”
According to Davis, three out of every 10 visitors to the site come from outside the U.S. “Recently on TravelWeb, we’ve experienced a surge in international usage and an increasing shift to business-related bookings,” Davis said. “It’s an indicator of how and where the Internet is being used.”
In August, TravelWeb added airline reservations, and it plans to include car rental reservations in 1997.
