Travelocity Reports Holiday Travelers Booking Well Ahead

International bookings over Thanksgiving are skyrocketing past last year’s numbers despite a weak dollar and higher fares according to Travelocity. While Travelocity’s 2007 holiday data shows international trips are up a whopping 22 percent over last season, it also reveals travelers are even staying slightly longer during their foreign visits.

Travelers are booking well in advance of their departure, 85 days in advance for domestic travel (compared to 81 days in 2006) and more than 100 days for international trips. Many forward-looking travelers seem to have snapped up their Thanksgiving tickets several months ago while fall fares were down by about 3 percent.

As it turns out, early movers were on the right track, as average domestic and international fares are now higher, up 2.6 percent and 5.5 percent, respectively, compared to last Thanksgiving.
