Tourist workforce on Isla Mujeres shrinks by 20 percent
Juan Carrillo Figueroa, president of the Chamber of Commerce Delegation in the Mexican destination of Isla Mujeres, informed the tourist workforce dropped 20% during the ongoing low-peak season, regardless of the temporary shutdown of several tourism-related local businesses.
These businesses were supposed to reopen in late November or early December –Mr. Figueroa explained- because current circumstances have pushed several establishments to close down shop in the face of high costs triggered by leasing charges, payrolls and the price of water and power supply.
The CANACO leader went on to say that on Hidalgo Avenue –the island’s main commercial center- more than six businesses have shut down for good, while a similar number of outlets have closed only during the low-peak season.
