Tourist Found Dead in Malaysia after Distress Call

It was a gory sight in a hotel room in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, where a Chinese tourist had earlier made a distress call to the reception counter. A hotel staff member who rushed to the third-floor room when the line went dead found the guest sprawled on a blood-soaked bed, with slash wounds on her chest and neck.

He alleged that he later saw a man climbing out of the window of the hotel in Jalan Pudu, brandishing a bloodstained knife and threatening to kill if the staff member got close to him. The alleged intruder, believed to be a Myanmar national, then escaped.

The murder victim has been identified as Wong Yue Wah, 39, who had been on holiday in Malaysia since September 20. She had called the reception desk and had asked for help, moments before she was found dead at about 6 am last week. Wong was found stabbed three times on her chest and slashed once on her neck.

City deputy CID chief Assistant Commander Ramli Mat Arshad said the suspect ignored the hotel staff member’s order to stop and threatened to kill him if he came closer. The staff member informed his supervisor, who then called the police.
