Tourism Minister Urges LIAT to Apologize to Passengers for Tardy Service

Grenadian Tourism Minister Clarice Modeste-Curwen has said LIAT is abusing its monopoly power and wants the airline to apologies to all passengers who have suffered from its insufficiencies.

“We have suffered from LIAT in 2007 since it became a monopoly and for this New Year, we again have begin to suffer, we have reverted to the days before we had an international airport, the suffering is untenable,” she said, while calling for the airline to issue an apology to Grenada and Caribbean destinations which benefits from the airline services. “A monopoly does not give anyone the right to abuse its people.”

The Minister said that Grenada has suffered from a scarcity of airlift and Government is presently negotiating with other airlines to solve the problem. “Given the scope of our tourism expansion, we as a Government is holding negotiations for more flights, we need more, we need airlift to take care of passengers choosing to experience our tourism product,” she said while addressing the official commissioning of the Port Louis Marina.

Announcing that very soon Grenada will be making an announcement about new airlift within the region, the Minister said that 2008 will be the year of implementation within the tourism industry. “We are working to ensure that there is improve airlift in and out of Grenada because a lack of airlift is negatively impacting on the tourism product,” she said.
