Teacher Found Dead in the Bahamas

A 30-year-old Waterbury teacher has been found dead in the Bahamas while on vacation with family and friends. Tim Massa’s body was found Monday night in a harbor near the Atlantis Resort and Hotel.

Chris Massa says his two brothers and their friends partied most of Saturday into Sunday morning. He says Tim Massa went back to his hotel room at about 1 a.m., but he was nowhere to be found when the rest of the group returned to the hotel about four hours later.

Tim Massa, a Naugatuck native, was a gym teacher at Waterbury Arts Magnet School. There was a moment of silence this morning at the school and grief counselors are on hand to help the students deal with the loss.

The family is awaiting more information on Tim’s death. The U.S. State Department as well as local authorities are investigating.
