Strike Forced Alitalia to Call off Nearly Two Hundred Flights

Italian state-run airline Alitalia cancelled 196 flights last week due to a strike staged by traffic controllers in several Italian cities.

Alitalia said it was scrapping 116 international flights and 80 domestic flights. The four-hour walkout is scheduled to start at noon.

It is the second strike this month by air traffic controllers, who are calling for more safety conditions at work. Saturday´s protest is also the latest in a raft of strikes that have snarled transport in Italy this month.
