The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority has upgraded its mobile app launched last year. The free app features a more user-friendly interface and is available in iPhone, iPad and Android versions; a web app version is also available for other smartphones including Blackberries.

The upgraded app features information on SVG’s 32 islands and cays, including hotel and dining information on each of the nine inhabited islands. There is also updated contact information on local sailing, diving, soft adventure and wedding and honeymoon operators and suppliers. The app also includes new photography, video, and maps showcasing varied SVG experiences, plus links to SVG’s Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest pages and profiles. Finally, the enhanced app features an interactive underwater game that allows users to match rare SVG underwater species to their proper names.

“We are always seeking new and engaging ways to draw in potential visitors,” said Glen Beache, CEO of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority. “We believe SVG represents the Caribbean as it was 40 years ago; our tallest building is five stories. Although we want to welcome more visitors we still emphasize the unspoiled nature of our country. We never want to become a mass tourism destination.”

The app also highlights SVG’s primary tourism infrastructure program, the building of Argyle International Airport, which will replace the existing ET Joshua Airport. Scheduled for completion in 2013, the new airport will offer direct international jet service from the U.S., Canada and Europe, and provide five times the capacity of the current airport. Airport project updates are available under the app’s “Airport” and “How to Get There” sections, where travelers can also find information on airline carriers and gateway cities.
