St. Marteen Unveils New Airport Terminal

St. Maarten’s new airport terminal at the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) was officially unveiled on November 10. The grand opening ceremony was attended by government officials and dignitaries from neighboring Caribbean islands.

Also turning up for the event were local residents who seemed keen on getting a glimpse of Queen Beatrix, the queen of the Netherlands, who inaugurated the new airport terminal.

Designed to accommodate 2.5 million people, the new airport terminal is up to par with the needs of today’s travelers, with its check-in and baggage reclaim facilities, and has all the modern conveniences expected of any world-class airport, such as automatic teller machines, shopping and dining.

The $90 million project, according to airport officials, represents the first phase of the renovation of PJIA. Work has begun for the extension of the runway.
