St. Croix Offers Cruise Tourists Unique Experience, Says USVI Governor

Following recent Disney Cruise Lines announcement that it will send to St. Croix seven times in 2009, USVI Governor John de Jongh said he is optimistic about the island’s making its way through the cruise sector.

Mr. De Jongh praised St Croix as a unique experience for cruise passengers, though so far the island has not succeeded in selling itself as a good destination.

St Croix is poised to become a port of call for other cruise lines as well. My Administration is committed to branding St Croix as its own destination with a completely different appeal and offering when compared to St. Thomas.

St Croix has a unique mix of colonial style architecture, natural wonders to include marine habitats”, said the Head of State. Disney Cruise Lines visits are expected for January, February, March, October, November and December next year.

While St. Thomas is a must-visit destination for world top cruise ships, its sister island St Croix has not enjoyed regular visits. This despite the fact that back in 2004, St Croix launched the initiative for ships to bunker on the island, which is known for the low cost of fuel.
