Spirit Files Application to Serve Barranquilla, Colombia

Spirit Airlines said it recently filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation to introduce service between Fort Lauderdale and Barranquilla, Colombia.

The airline now holds the necessary U.S. Department of Transportation authorization to service this market, and has also filed for and is awaiting the necessary approvals from the Colombian authorities in order to begin operations.

If approved, the airline expects to announce schedules and start selling this new service in the spring for service to start this summer.
