Spanish Tourists Flocking Back to Yemen

Spanish tourists are once again traveling to Yemen after last month’s deadly terrorist attack. The correspondent of the Al-Ayyan daily could meet seven Spanish tourists, a man and six women, and one Swedish in Shibam of Hadhramout, according to the independent daily.

The paper said the tourists arrived in Yemen last July 28 and headed to Hdhramout after visits to Sana’a, Amran, Hajja and Thula. The visit of the Spanish tourists came four weeks after eight Spaniards were killed in a terrorist attack in Marib on July 2.

The Spanish team said they have heard about the Marib terror attack as they have been still in Spain, according to the source. According to the source, the Spanish tourists confirmed they would visit Marib “despite the bitter memory.”

The tourist said Yemen is still unknown for many Europeans and information about it is very little. “Yemen is beautiful and wonderful. We are now in Shibam which has wonderful ancient buildings, made of mud,” she said.
