Spanair to Add More Flights to Latin America

Spanish airline Spanair will start flying more often to Latin America next year with new connections. The company´s president and CEO, Gonzalo Pascual, explained the front office is weighing possibilities to open three or four new routes to target the segments of business travelers and sunbathers.

Mr. Pascual added that his company has no intention whatsoever to compete with rival Spanish carriers Iberia, Air Europa and Air Madrid, but rather try to take up the slack of passengers willing to fly from Madrid to the Americas.

In the first phase of the expansion program -beginning in mid November or early December- Spanair will fly Boeing 747 jetliners owned by Air Plus and Pullmantur, two companies that have shares in the Marsans Group, all the way to Lima and Bogota. The second part will include the city of Quito.

Mr. Pascual´s company signed a recent alliance with Aerolineas Argentinas and the merger has put over two thousands passengers on planes despite the current economic hardships the South American nation is going through.

Spanair is also assessing the possibility of providing weekly flights to China for business travelers and tourists, using aircraft run by Pulmantur, Air Plus and Star Alliance.
