Spain to Help Restore Heritage Sites in Three Jamaican Towns

Spain has included Jamaica in its program of cultural patrimony, that it has been promoting worldwide for 25 years.

The program, which is being introduced in the English-speaking Caribbean for the first time, will see assistance being given in the redevelopment of downtown Kingston and the restoration of heritage sites in Spanish Town, St Catherine, Seville, St Ann and Port Royal.

Spain´s ambassador to Jamaica Jesus Silva, said at a press briefing at the embassy in New Kingston yesterday, that the program would include the restoration of monuments and rehabilitation of historical centers.

He said that for the last 25 years the Spanish government has engaged in ambitious patrimony and heritage preservation projects, primarily in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, recovering historical centers and restoring schools and towns.
