Spain, Cuba Agree to Increase Weekly Flights between both Countries

The Spanish government has just given the green light to an air transportation agreement with Cuba in order to increase exchange in that field in the near future and to override a previous bilateral accord that dated back to 1951.

The agreement seeks to favor the advance and safety of air transportation between the two nations and beef up international cooperation in this matter in line with the 1944 International Civil Aviation Pact.

In keeping with the new agreement, air companies from both countries will be entitled to operate weekly flights through the month of December and using any kind of jetliner.

Air carriers designed by Cuba and Spain could also come to terms as far as joints business operations are concerned and will have a chance of piecing together further agreements for code-sharing flights.

The accord also embraces such matters as import rights on fuels and oils, spare parts and other provisions, as well as airport taxes and proceedings for the establishment of airport taxation policies.

In the same breath, the new pact will cover other sensitive areas like enforcement of regulations and guidelines in ports of entry, stopovers, usage of aircraft in international flights, passenger and crew services, luggage, mail and cargo.
