Some 129 million euros to beef up security in Spanish airports

Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) will shell out 129 million euros to buttress security in Spain’s airports in 2003, compared to just 14 million euros earmarked this year for that same effort. The announcement was made by Alejandro Aldanondo, head of AENA Planning Department, in the course of the 2nd Congress of Aviation Industry organized in Madrid by the Spanish Airlines Association (AECA).

The investment to strengthen security between the years 2000 and 2007 will peak 275 million euros, while the total amount of money to reinforce security in airports and planes will reach 9.5 billion euros in the same span of time. One of the top goals behind this effort is the screening of all baggage in each and every flight and airport.
