Sol Meliá to Call September "UNICEF Solidarity Month"
Spanish hotel chain Sol Meliá will conduct a fundraising campaign in September to help a number a educational projects fostered by the United Nations Children´s Fund (UNICEF).
With that intention in mind, Sol Meliá Vice President Sebastian Escarrer and UNICEF´s highest-ranking official in Spain, Francisco Gonzalez-Bueno, signed a agreement recently.
More than 220 hotels and a baker´s dozen corporate headquarters stationed in Spain, the U.K., Brazil, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Indonesia will dole out information brochures among their customers, containing details about how to make donations and contributions to the project.
Guests in the 170-plus hotels owned y the company in Spain will also receive a UNICEF leaflet with information on how to become a member of the United Nations Children´s Fund.
The collected money will be funneled into UNICEF-sponsored educational projects for girls in developing nations that have signed up for the initiative and in which the Spanish hotel company owns and runs properties.
Sol Meliá picked the month of September because most beach and urban hotels feature high occupancy rates in that time of year. The company´s 220 lodgings participating in the initiative comprise a grand total of 50,000 rooms that could accommodate up to a million guests in that month-long effort.
