Small train to connect Cancun, Mayan Riviera

The Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (South East Airport Group), that manages the top vacation centers of the Mexican Caribbean, is setting out to make a railroad connection between Cancun and the Mayan Riviera by means of a small train.

A press release sent by the company to the Stock Market states the federal government supports the railroad connection between the Mayan Riviera (in the Caribbean area) and the city of Cancun and the Cancun International Airport, and is eager to be filled in on further details about the project.

Caribbean News Digital has learned the administrative commission hired the services of DE-Consult, a Germany-based company, to conduct a feasibility study on the project.

GAS officials are just waiting for the necessary materials to kick off construction works for a second runway at the Cancun airport.

Once the second tarmac is ready, the terminal will be set to absorb the increasingly larger demand of airborne passengers over the next two decades.

GAS is currently running nine air terminals in southeastern Mexico, including the airports in the travel destinations of Cancun and Cozumel, as well as those in the colonial cities of Merida and Oaxaca.
