In today’s Belgrade, the situation faced by the Mladen family is extremely dramatic: their son Nemanja has been diagnosed with a serious heart condition and doctors say that he should undergo surgery abroad. Obtaining the amount of money they need is nearly impossible. Nevertheless, when the family is on the brink of desperation, the father meets a man that is willing to give him that sum if he outsources the man’s business competitors.

"Huddersfield" is a cruel portrait of contemporary Serbia. The action takes place in a small city of the Balkan state, and the main character is Rasa, a thirty-year-old man who lives with his alcoholic father and make a living by giving private lessons and working as a radio broadcaster. His friends are a teenaged girl who shares a bed with him, his psychotic neighbor and his two lifelong friends, one of whom has come to visit him after having lived for 11 years in Huddersfield (England).

May 12: I’LL BE THE KANGAROO WHEN I GROW UP / Kad porastem bicu Kengur / Serbia and Montenegro / 2004 / (98’) / Dir. Braka, insecure and short on money, is dating a beautiful model; two young men long to become millionaires by betting on soccer games while the rest of the people in the bar look up at their local hero, who is playing a major match against the Manchester United.

May 13: KOSOVO: CAN YOU IMAGINE? / Kosovo: Can You Imagine? / Canada / 2009 / 30’ / Dir. Boris Malagurski / Documentary / PG-16. It’s focused on the Serbs that live in Kosovo and the lack of human rights currently faced by them in the 21st century. Most Serbian-Kosovar people have been ethnically   thrashed by the Albanians, who prevail in Kosovo. This former Serbian province has been managed by the UN since 1999 when NATO bombed Serbia for 76 days in order to stop the Serbian offensive by Albanian separatists. After the war, thousands of Serbs were expelled out of their homes, kidnapped and murdered. Their houses and their religious and cultural premises were devastated. Kosovo represents to Serbian people what Jerusalem stands for Jews.
