Santiago de Cuba's Streets Boast Nearly 4,000 New Traffic Signs

Brand-new traffic signs have improved the road infrastructure in Santiago de Cuba province and, along with urbanity airs of its head cities and the preventive work carried out, have helped reduce the number of fatal traffic accidents.

The death toll due to traffic accidents has gone down to date, a result of the preventive work and systematic fashion in terms of the technical roadworthiness check of motor vehicles, with special emphasis on public transportation.

Nearly 4 thousand new vertical signs have been installed in the province, a work that was intensified after the impact of hurricane Sandy in this region, in October 2012, which damaged most of these signs.

This improvement can be viewed throughout the National Highway, inter-municipal roads, streets and main avenues; an achievement that is complemented by nearly 83 thousand cubic meters of asphalt to cover potholes and cracks.

In the first half of the year, the work was developed along 5 kilometers to the east of this city, Songo-La Maya tunnel and the road from Granma to Aserradero, Guamá municipality.

Likewise, over 800 signs have been installed and almost 2,276 were repaired, including pedestals as part of the urbanization of spaces that has gained momentum in an effort to pay tribute to the 500th anniversary of the foundation of this village, to be celebrated in July 2015.

Both pedestrians and drivers that travel around the Central Road, right at the 969 kilometer of this city, can make the most of the modern traffic signs that guide them throughout the recently-created July 26 Monumental Area.

The number of traffic signs in neighborhoods is going to be increased by 2015.
