Santiago de Cuba to Have a Seawall

As part of the actions that are being undertaken in Santiago de Cuba to celebrate the 500th anniversary of its foundation, the Seawall Project will enhance the beauty of the city’s coastline.

This work aims at preserving the historic, urban, environmental and architectural value of this area that includes Michelsen Avenue, presently known as Jesús Menéndez.

The project entails the revitalization of the tourism road all the way to the emblematic Morro Castle, and the construction of viewpoints and cafeterias in different spots so visitors can admire the beauty and splendor of the Santiago Bay.

“El Náutico” restaurant is one of the spaces included in the project, as it was refurbished after the impact of Hurricane Sandy and currently welcomes national and international patrons.

Six public parks along the marine geography will give La Alameda promenade that touch that makes the city be so attractive.

According to Omar López, curator of the city, "our port and the commercial shipping activities are going to be moved to another area and “El Espigón” is being prepared to receive cruises with tourists, since the city looks like an amphitheater from this point, nestled between the sea and the mountains."
