The refurbishment and remodeling of properties presently mark the day by day in Santiago de Cuba, an old city that is being decked out to celebrate in 2015 half a millennium of its foundation.
Motivated, among other reasons, by this constructive hustle and bustle, a group of 89 Canadian tourists arrived in Antonio Maceo international airport, flying from Toronto with tour operator Sunwing.
Collen Carter and Karen Lawton are two young Canadians that usually visit Cuba, specifically Santiago de Cuba. They have commented that this city is what attracts them the most on the Cuban archipelago.
The arrival of tour operator Sunwing’s flight sets the beginning of the winter season in Santiago de Cuba, now with an additional incentive: the 500th anniversary of the foundation of Santiago de Cuba.
“The tourism season has also kicked off with the significant improvement of hotel and extra-hotel facilities, the creation of new and well-assorted offers, with the collaboration of tour operators, travel agencies, airlines and associated hotel chains”, according to Carlos Negret, Marketing executive of the Territorial delegation of the Tourism Ministry in Santiago de Cuba.
“Unlike previous years”, Negret announced, “we hope that this one is going to be better due to the arrival of 23 cruises on Thursdays, starting now and through March 2015”.
The cradle of trova, son and bolero, with outstanding historic and landscape attractions and charismatic people, Santiago de Cuba opened its doors to Canada, one of the main tourism outbound markets to Cuba and Santiago de Cuba.
