Santiago’s Plaza de Marte

As a result of the remodeling actions underway in the Cuban capital of the Caribbean, the people of Santiago can now enjoy a different environment at the famous Plaza de Marte (Mars Square).

The House of Wine is one of the attractive elements at the square, with affordable prices for bottles of this drink that is handcrafted by using fruits of the region and other raw materials like beet, carambola, sweet potato, tomato and raisin.

The first chocolate and liquor store of the city is also very popular among its people. The premise dates back from 1909 and is specialized in the making and selling of these products.

Music enthusiasts will find “Sindo Garay” store, so the daughters and sons of this musical land can have the opportunity to buy fine musical instruments that have been produced in the city. The property sells such instruments as studio and customized guitars, tres, lute, percussion instruments, bongó, güiro, claves, and maracas. The children can also play small and medium-sized instruments.

When it comes to talking about fine music we have to mention the Iris Jazz Club, described by many acclaimed artists as one of the best places to enjoy that rhythm in the country, a benchmark space in the cultural life of Santiago.  

For those who love that delicious black nectar called coffee, Mars Square also features a fine place. The Mama Inés Café serves tea and the aromatic drink in different presentations: with cheese, cappuccino, and rum, among others. An interesting option accompanied by the added value of Bola de Nieve’s voice.

At “El Tamarindo” you can drink juices and other products prepared with fruits and vegetables. This premise is managed by the ideal markets network, as well as “La Primera Caridad”, right in the other corner of the square.

“La Rotonda” is specialized on selling candies and ice creams. It’s very popular among national and international visitors, as well as the historic Rex Hotel, which housed a group of the men that assaulted the Moncada barracks on July 26, 1953.

The Mars Square, a place that opens the doors to Enramadas Street, one of the main arteries of the city, stands in this summertime with new airs that invite those who live in Cuba’s second most populated city to enjoy and relax.
