Santa Barbara Plantation’s Jack Marshall Wins Curacao Tourism Industry Award
Curacao’s tourism association, CHATA, has given American developer Jack Marshall its 2011 Industry Award. Marshall was given the award “for his achievement of developing the Santa Barbara area” on this Dutch Caribbean island.
Marshall has overseen the development of this 1,500-acre beach and bayfront resort community, which includes the 350-room Hyatt Regency Curacao Golf Resort, Spa and Marina; the Pete Dye-designed Old Quarry golf course; the 120-slip Seru Boca Marina; and the Peter Burwash International Tennis Center.
Heretofore the island of Curacao has been known as a business center, as a busy port, and for its large oil refinery. Tourism in the Dutch islands has been largely limited to Aruba and Bonaire, both for their superb beaches and diving. With the advent of Santa Barbara Plantation, the door is open to make Curacao a major resort destination.
With its many amenities, Santa Barbara is the Caribbean’s newest and most complete resort community; taking its place alongside such seaside destinations as Casa de Campo and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, and Palmas del Mar in Puerto Rico.
