Samana Highway Brings Progress to Dominican Northeast

The Regional Development Council (CRD) that gathers the Northeast and Central Cibao provinces stressed the impulse that the Santo Domingo-Samana highway will represent for the zone.

Among the benefits they cite the linking of the Dominican Northeast with Santo Domingo’s eastern zones, the Las Americas International Airport, the Las Americas highway and the old Mella highway.

In a letter to the editor of the newspaper El Nacional, Radhames Gomez Pepin, Ysocrates Peña and Jaime Antonio Marizan, of the CRD, said the construction of the Santo Domingo-Samana highway is part of a series of works that their entity has demanded to get the zone on the move.

They said that El Catey airport, the Hatillo-San Francisco airdrome, the streamlining of the port of Arroyo Barril, the Northeastern-Dominican-Haiti international railroad and are among those works.

They said that another benefit of the Santo Domingo-Samana highway is that it hooks up the Northeast region provinces with those of the East, let alone becoming a road axis linking major tourism zones. “It constitutes an instrument to motorize the development of beach tourism and to rekindle ecotourism in the Northeast and the Central Cibao,” they said, adding that Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Duarte, Samana and Sanchez Ramirez provinces will benefit from it as well.
