Russians Traveling More in 2011

According to ATOR Analytical Service, in the first quarter of 2011 the number of the Russian tourists increased by 7.4 percent in comparison with the same period of last year. The growth amounted to 20.6 percent if to compare with 2008.

The expert’s estimates of ATOR Analytical Service show that due to the well-known events in Egypt and prohibition of the flights to this country on condition that the general dynamics of the increasing of outbound flow remains the same (24 percent) the Russian travel industry missed about 380 thousand people.

73 percent of the analyzed countries showed a positive dynamics in comparison with the first quarter of 2010. The best positive dynamics showed Cuba (130 percent), Malta (105 percent) and Thailand (90 percent). The most negative dynamics showed Romania (-67 percent), Egypt (-65 percent) and Canada (-45 percent).

According to the results of the first quarter of 2011 Thailand replaced the definite leader of the first 3 months of 2010 – Egypt. The share of Thailand amounted to 13.2 percent (300 thousand Russians). That was almost in 2 times more than in 2010. The share of the tourists who visited Thailand increased by 6 percent in comparison with last year.

The 2nd place took China. Almost 281 thousand Russian tourists visited the country in the first quarter of 2011 (+16 percent in comparison with the same period of 2010). The 3rd popular country became Finland (213 thousand Russians with tourist purposes). Egypt went down to the 4th place. The tourist flow to this country decreased by 65 percent in comparison with the same period of last year (202 thousand people).

Germany remained on the 5th place according to the results of the first quarter of 2011. More than 145 thousand Russians visited the country with tourist purposes (+40 percent in comparison with the same period of 2010).

The barrier of 100 thousand tourists took the following countries in the first quarter of the year: Italy (116 thousand people, +44 percent), UAE (112 thousand people, +38 percent) and Turkey (103 thousand people, +68 percent).

Czech Republic (68 thousand people) and Israel (almost 50 thousand people) can boast of 40 percent dynamics of the growth. Spain (59 thousand people) and Austria (54 thousand people) increased the tourist flow for 1/3. A considerable dynamics showed the USA (22 thousand, +54 percent), Cyprus (18 thousand, +60 percent) and Cuba (17 thousand, +130 percent).
