In addition to a $1 million balcony enhancement program currently underway at the 416-room Ritz-Carlton, San Juan Hotel, Spa & Casino, the luxury property will begin construction in January of an 18,000-square-foot spa to be built above its casino, according to Jacqueline Volkart, hotel manager.

The Isla Verde property, a 10-minute drive from San Juan’s airport, is adding balconies to 40 of its ocean-view rooms to complement the 21 ocean-view rooms already with balconies. The new balconies will be completed before the peak season begins in December, Volkart said.

The 15-foot-long balconies have terra cotta-tiled floors and wrought-iron railings that permit a view of the ocean beyond. Each balcony will have a table and two chairs.

The new spa will feature 18 treatment rooms, a fitness center and will have a “very Puerto Rico theme with rainforest sounds and the colors of the island,” according to Volkart.

Completion is scheduled for the fall of 2008. The existing spa facility will remain open for guests’ use until the new facility opens.
