The 237-room Renaissance Curacao Resort & Casino is on schedule to open in the third quarter of 2008 as the first new branded resort on the island in 15 years, according to Maylin Trenidad, general manager.

“We’re planning a grand opening celebration to welcome guests at a resort where old-world Curacao meets new-world luxury,” Trenidad said.

The hotel is located on the waterfront of Willemstad, the capital, and is home to the legendary Rif Fort, a 19th century landmark and a World Heritage site. All guest rooms will be equipped with high speed Internet, a mini-refrigerator, a coffeemaker and a flat screen TV.

Facilities will include an infinity pool; access to a private beach; 15 restaurants, lounges and bars; the Rif Fort’s open-air Boulevard and Renaissance Mall with up to 50 shops, cafes and bars; the 15,000-square-foot Carnaval Casino with slots, table games and a six-cinema movie theater; and a spa and fitness center.
