Rehabilitation of the Foundational Ring System
The Rehabilitation of the Foundational Ring System project, managed by the City Curator’s Office, stands as a key element within the program to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Santiago de Cuba Village, as it targets the area where the city was originated and developed.

The project aims at Ring 0, the foundational center that includes the old Arms Square, presently Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Park, and the 11 properties around it, which is a complex of exceptional heritage value due to the architectural richness of its buildings and the events that have taken place in this area and make up Santiago’s history, such as the foundation of the village and the proclamation of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1st, 1959.
Ring 1 covers 9 blocks starting at the perimeter of the foundational center and Ring 2, 18 external blocks. It borders with San Gerónimo and Jagüey Streets to the north, Santa Lucía to the south, Padre Pico to west and east with Carnicería.
From an urban point of view, the actions are going to be focused on the lateral walls of some properties and the urban refurbishment of twelve street sections in the area, with impact on the facades of buildings, identification posters, rearrangement of electric and telephonic wires.
