Regulatory Snags Continue to Dog Redjet

Redjet, the Barbados-based carrier that had hoped to launch an intra-Caribbean network, has scrapped most of those plans for now. The carrier said "ongoing regulatory delays" in Trinidad and Jamaica forced it to cancel its planned service between the two islands.

Redjet also suspended its Barbados-Jamaica launch until July 24 and notified passengers holding reservations by email. Those who had already paid will be issued a full refund.

Redjet has encountered stumbling blocks all along the way. Attempts to get the Jamaica and Trinidad services into the air were repeatedly delayed by civil aviation authorities in both countries that claimed Redjet’s permissions and approvals were not in order. The only Redjet service operating without problems is the Barbados-Guyana route that launched May 10.
