Ranking of the World´s Biggest Airports

The (Airports Council International (ACI) has just disclosed preliminary figures linked to passenger traffic in 2003 and put out the list of the thirty busiest airports in the world.

The ACI embraces airport authorities in over 1,500 airports and terminals from 169 countries.

Like in past years, the Atlanta International Airport -Delta Airlines´ home base and hub- continues to lead the pack with 79,086,792 flown passengers in 2003. Next on the list is Chicago´s O´Hare Airport with 69,354,154 airborne travelers, London´s Heathrow and Tokyo´s Airport with 63 million apiece, and LAX (Los Angeles) with 54,969,053 fliers.

Delta Airlines, the world´s second-largest air carrier, has done a huge contribution of its own in making Atlanta´s airport remain on top. The terminal currently serves 497 destinations in 86 countries.

In Spain, where Delta Airlines has four daily flights to the U.S., Madrid´s Barajas Airport is the busiest terminal in Europe and the thirteenth overall in the world ranking.
