Ecuador’s new Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito will open at 9 a.m. on Feb. 20 in the Tababela district, approximately 12 miles northeast of the historic capital city. The new facility replaces the original airport, built in 1960 in a valley surrounded by mountains near the city center. The old airport will cease operations at 7 p.m. on Feb. 19.

The new airport terminal will have 60 counters, an area for Galapagos check-ins, 24 immigration counters for arrivals and 12 immigration counters for departures, plus duty free shops, restaurants lounges and other facilities.

Taxis and private transfers between the airport and the city center, along with express bus service, will be available. Licensed taxis will operate with predefined rates from various city zones, with fees to be defined by the municipality.
